“I would have never said that I was a disabled, queer woman in high school…”

“My freshman year there was an event on the Barrett lawn with a board where you would write three identities on cards and then tie a string to shared identities with other students. I remember looking around to make sure nobody recognized me; I wrote ‘queer,’ then ran away. I would have never said that I was a disabled, queer woman in high school, if probably ever, if I was not in Justice Studies/Women & Gender Studies. I found this liberating language when I started exploring phenomenology, feminist theory, and social transformation.”
